General Plan

Experimental Design:

For my experiment I am doing what solution gets permanent marker out of clothes best. I will be doing my experiment at my house. There will be no one other than me in my experiment. I plan on doing three trials. Each trial I will soak the cotton with the mark on it in all of the solutions. Then I will take the cotton out and dab each peice of cotton with the same force. After I will time each peice of cotton to see which solution faded the marker the most. I will record all the data on a spread sheet.

Material List:

Solutions; Lemon Juice, Alcohol, Nail Polish Remover, Dish Soap, Mouth Wash, Tooth Paste
Cotton Material
Cotton Balls
Timer
Marker

Detailed Procedure:

1) Gather Solutions
2) Take cotton and make the same size mark with permanent marker on each peice of cotton.
3)Put cotton in solutions for five minutes
4) Take cotton out of solutions
5)Take cotton ball and dab the cotton
6) Write down how much marker faded in what solution

Discussion/Results:

Conclusion:

The purpose of this experiment was to see which solution took permanent marker out of cloth the most. I rated each peice of cloth on a scale from one to five based on how much of the marker came out of the cloth. The results of the experiment were that the tooth paste solution brought out the permanent marker the most. The second solution that got out the permanent marker was mouth wash. Then two solutions came in third which were nail polish remover and alcohol. Lastly in fifth place was dish soap and the lemon juice solution. The marker and the cloth stayed consistent through out my experiment.
